Pakistan’s Domestic Consumers May Get 8-Hour Gas Supply This Winter
Domestic consumers may receive eight hours of full-pressure gas during breakfast, lunch and dinner this winter under a proposed SNGPL and SSGC load-management plan.
Domestic gas consumers in Pakistan may receive eight hours of full-pressure gas daily during breakfast, lunch and dinner this winter under a proposed gas load-management plan, according to media reports.

The proposal is being considered as the government prepares to manage seasonal gas shortages. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) have reportedly agreed to the arrangement, under which supply would be concentrated around the three main meal times.
However, the plan has not been officially announced. Its approval, implementation and exact supply timings remain subject to confirmation.
Gas Supply Schedules May Differ by Region
Under the proposed arrangement, gas supply could be interrupted during hours outside the designated meal-time windows.
If approved, SNGPL and SSGC would issue separate schedules for their respective service areas. The exact division of the eight-hour supply among breakfast, lunch and dinner has not yet been confirmed.
The Petroleum Division has completed preliminary work on the plan and is expected to brief the prime minister, sources said.
According to the reported figures, SNGPL supplies 487 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas to domestic consumers, while SSGC supplies 286 MMCFD.
Households May Need to Adjust Cooking Routines
The proposed schedule could require households to change their daily cooking routines, prepare meals in advance or use alternative fuels.
Consumers who cannot access pipeline gas outside the designated hours may have to purchase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or use other cooking options, potentially adding to household expenses.
The effectiveness of the plan would depend on the gas utilities’ ability to maintain adequate pressure during the designated supply periods, particularly when households are preparing meals.
Government Yet to Confirm Winter Gas Plan
The petroleum minister and senior Petroleum Division officials were contacted for comments on the proposed plan but had not responded at the time of reporting.
Further details are awaited on the exact supply timings, the schedule for each utility and whether the proposed arrangement will apply uniformly across their service areas.
For now, the eight-hour gas supply plan remains a proposal rather than a confirmed schedule for consumers.
