Karachi, April 26, 2019: The professional and working journalists who cover the proceedings of the Sindh Assembly have jointly announced to form an association for their formal representation.
The new body has been named as the Association of Parliamentary Journalists (Sindh Assembly). The APJ will comprise of news reporters, cameramen, and photographers who cover sessions of the provincial assembly.
The announcement to this effect was made by an organizing committee comprising of the senior most journalists who have been doing parliamentary reporting for the last several decades.
The organizing committee met here the other day at the committee room of Sindh Assembly in the presence of parliamentary reporters, cameramen, and photographers.
Also on the occasion, a seven-member organizing committee comprising of senior journalists was constituted.
The organizing committee has been formed to frame the constitution, rules and regulations of the new association, finalization of the process of its election, membership drive, and other issues related to the representative body of the parliamentary journalists.
The organizing committee will comprise of Tahir Hassan Khan as its convener, Shahid Jatoi, Shahid Ghazali, Shams Keerio, Qazi Asif, Muneeruddin, Shahzad Memon, and Waqar Hussain.
All news reporters, cameramen, and photographers who cover the proceedings of Sindh Assembly have hailed the decision to form the new association for their formal representation at a joint platform.
The organizing committee so formed in pursuance of the democratic norms has announced to hold the elections to formally constitute the representative body of the parliamentary journalists.
The election for the purpose will be held on Saturday, 4th May 2019. The organizing committee has announced that the membership drive of the new association will be completed before the elections.
The announcement of the organizing committee to this effect says that the newsmen associated with the newspapers, TV news channels, and news agencies who cover sessions of Sindh Assembly will be eligible to become members of the new association.
The list of members of the new association will be finalized and made public till Monday, 29th April 2019 as on the same day the schedule for elections will be announced while the issuance of nomination forms for the prospective candidates will also start on Monday.
The fellow journalists who were assigned the task to prepare the members’ lists have been asked to submit the same to the organizing committee till Saturday 27th April 2019 for maintaining transparency and lawfulness in the entire electoral process.
The organizing committee has announced that all working journalists who have been covering the Sindh Assembly’s proceedings are eligible to become members of the new committee as for the purpose they could meet the membership committee either at the premises of Sindh Assembly or Karachi Press Club while showing their Computerized National Identity Card and office identity card.
The organizing committee is deemed as the final authority in deciding the matters related to the membership of the new committee.
