In the history of International Cricket, the Sri Lankan all rounder and former captain Angelo Mathews become the first man who was given “ timed out” in an ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh.
After suffering an injury to pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana, Angelo Mathews, who had entered the Sri Lankan team late, came down to bat in the 25th over with Sadeera Samarawickrama’s wicket falling and the scoreboard showing 135-4.
After experiencing problems with his helmet due to a broken strap, the former captain took more than two minutes to take aim. The “timed out” dismissal that Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan had appealed for was upheld by referees Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth.
