Lahore, November 08, 2023 : In an effort to combat smog, the Punjab government has declared a state of emergency and implemented Section-144 in the Lahore division.

This move comes in response to the deteriorating air quality in Lahore and its neighboring regions over the past few days. As per the official notification, Section 144 has been enforced in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib districts.

“Educational institutions, government and private offices, cinemas, parks and restaurants would remain closed during environmental and health emergencies while markets would remain shut on Saturday,” the notification stated.

Nevertheless, marriage halls, bakeries, pharmacies, public transportation services, and construction activities will not face any interruption or restrictions.

During a press conference on Tuesday, CM Naqvi emphasized the importance of the general public wearing masks, with a specific emphasis on children and the elderly. He pointed out that there were no plans to close factories or disrupt public transportation services.
