Kohistan, November 28, 2023 : Police in Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have initiated an inquiry into the reported murder of a girl by her family following the viral circulation of a video on social media featuring her with other boys in the Kolai-Palas district.
Police have reached out to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct an inquiry after images of a girl and boys went viral on social media. The FIA will be responsible for investigating the issue and apprehending those operating fake social media accounts.
Simultaneously, the police have conducted raids to apprehend the individuals involved. District Police Officer (DPO) Mukhtiar Tanoli, in an exclusive conversation with ARY News, disclosed that a video and separate pictures of two girls with boys, who are reportedly in hiding, gained traction on social media on November 22.
On November 24, DPO Mukhtiar Tanoli reported that one of the two girls was murdered by her father and uncle, following orders from a local council, or “jirga.”
Fortunately, the police managed to rescue the second girl and presented her before a local magistrate for a recorded statement. The girl expressed that she did not perceive any threat to her life from her family and preferred to stay with them rather than being relocated to Dar-ul-Aman. The DPO asserted that the viral pictures were evidently manipulated.
The girl’s body was transferred to a nearby medical facility for forensic examinations, and subsequently, it was returned to the family.
