Chairman of Sindh text board suspended on corruption charges

Karachi, December 08, 2023 : On Friday, the interim Chief Minister of Sindh addressed the reported corruption related to the procurement of books worth billions.

After news exposed an alleged mega corruption scandal, the interim Chief Minister of Sindh took action by issuing a notification to suspend Agha Sohail, the Chairman of the Sindh Textbook Board.

The report disclosed that those involved in procuring books exceeding Rs 2.5 billion allegedly disregarded the rules of the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) and were implicated in corruption.

Simultaneously, Akhtar Hussain Bugti has been assigned the additional responsibility of the Sindh Textbook Board.

In a parallel development, the Chief Secretary of Sindh suspended two officers for a three-month period, citing their alleged involvement in a corruption case of Rs 130 million related to the procurement of government school furniture.

Sources exposed a corruption scandal involving funds earmarked for purchasing furniture for government schools in Sukkur.

Officers Superintendent Abdul Shakoor Abru and Deputy Director Munawar Mughal are accused of corruption, allegedly awarding a tender to a known contractor and obtaining a commission of Rs 130 million.

The Chief Secretary mentioned that the final inquiry report is pending, and if the officers are implicated in corruption, they will face dismissal from their positions.
