Lahore, January 08, 2024 : Chicken meat and egg prices have hit record highs in Lahore, fueled by surging inflation.

The Poultry Association has rejected the proposed increases in chicken meat and egg prices. They are selling chicken meat at their own prescribed rates, which exceed the official prices, and have unequivocally refused to acknowledge the official rate list.

Chicken meat is being retailed at Rs 602 per kilogram, while egg prices stand at Rs 384 per dozen in various areas of Lahore. The administration lacks control over the pricing of chicken in these regions.

In the previous month, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) instructed the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) to maintain regular coordination with provincial governments in order to implement measures ensuring price stability and to curb hoarding and profiteering.

The Caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, chaired the meeting of the cabinet committee, as stated in a press release issued by the finance ministry.

The resolution came after the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) presented a briefing on the inflation scenario and the recent price trends of essential commodities.

Additionally, the cabinet committee gave its approval for the budget of the Employee Old Age Institution (EOBI), as proposed in the summary submitted by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
