Karachi, January 17, 2024: On the special directives of the caretaker provincial Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Arshad Wali Muhammad, the Acting Director General of Sindh Environment Agency (SEPA) Waris Ali Gabol has constituted 25 monitoring teams throughout Sindh to reinforce the already enacted ban on manufacture, sale, purchase, and use of non-degradable plastic bags in the province.
The teams formed will visit small markets, shopping centers, bazaars, and shops daily and take on-the-spot legal action against the vendors selling the goods in banned plastic bags. In this regard, while immediately implementing the decision, the team of the South District of Karachi visited Khori Garden, Yusuf Market, Anjum Center, and Burhani Center of Jodia Bazar.
It should be noted that there is a ban on the production, sale, purchase, and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags throughout the province, for which the teams of Sepa have been taking frequent action since its enforcement. However, caretaker Provincial Environment Minister Arshad Wali Muhammad is keenly interested in activating various Sections of SEPA, and the implementation of the said ban will now also be monitored regularly. Earlier, on the directives of the Caretaker Minister, regular action is being taken against smoke-emitting vehicles across Sindh. Apart from this, the supremacy of environmental laws is being ensured in other environmental issues as well.
