Babar Azam, Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi ‘punished’ after poor T20 World Cup performance

Lahore, July 04, 2024 : On Thursday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced a series of measures aimed at improving the Pakistan cricket team following their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

In an informal conversation with reporters in Lahore, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi discussed significant changes within the Pakistan cricket team, the future of Babar Azam as captain, the accountability of selectors, and the upgrading of stadiums ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Naqvi categorically stated that players who do not participate in domestic cricket will be barred from playing internationally.

The PCB chief announced that players seeking NOCs for domestic leagues will be denied due to the upcoming Test series.

Several Pakistan stars, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, have requested NOCs for the GT20 (Global T20 Canada), but Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that national commitments should always come first.

Additionally, various fitness assessments, including the Yo-Yo test, have been made mandatory.

Mohsin Naqvi also addressed a recent incident involving star pacer Haris Rauf during the T20 World Cup, where Rauf was harassed. He revealed that the individual responsible has been reported to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Naqvi also confirmed that Shan Masood will remain the captain of the national team for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
