Peshawar, July 04, 2024 : The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has declared a public holiday across the province in observance of the new Islamic year.
The Chief Secretary, in a notification, stated that the holiday on the first day of Muharram will be subject to the sighting of the moon.
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, is scheduled for July 6 to sight the moon of Muharram al-Haram and announce the start of the new Islamic year.
Similarly, zonal committees will convene meetings at their respective headquarters to determine the moon’s sighting, and the Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially announce the beginning of the new Islamic year.
Meanwhile, both federal and provincial governments have implemented special security measures to maintain law and order during Muharram.
