Karachi, July 06, 2024 : The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday shared the details regarding the birth of the Muharram moon and its expected sighting.
In a statement issued on June 20, the PMD mentioned that the new moon of Muharram would be born at the conjunction point at 03:57 PST on July 6. Based on astronomical parameters, there is no chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of July 6, which corresponds to the 29th of Zilhij 1445 AH.

The PMD also forecasted partly cloudy to cloudy weather across most parts of the country, potentially impacting the visibility of the moon further.
Meanwhile, the central moon sighting body is set to convene today in Quetta to observe the Muharram crescent, marking the start of the new Islamic calendar. The meeting will be presided over by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
Simultaneously, zonal committees will hold meetings for the sighting of the Muharram moon in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar.
