Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad, July 06, 2024 : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to abolish five federal ministries and has requested a plan from the relevant ministries within a week.

According to sources privy to the development, the ministries likely to be abolished include Information Technology, Kashmir Affairs, Science and Technology, Industry and Production, and Health Services.

These sources indicated that the relevant ministries have already begun working on providing recommendations as directed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The decision to abolish these ministries aligns with the demands of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who has been advocating for the elimination of certain federal ministries. Additionally, the prime minister has requested details on the roles of ministries that have been transferred to the provinces.

Previously, PM Shehbaz vowed to abolish all government departments and ministries that were incurring billions in losses, asserting that this move would save significant amounts of money for the country.

In his maiden address to the nation after assuming office, he emphasized that any ministry or government department that had become a burden on the country and its people would be shut down.

He emphasized that the government’s top priority is to reduce lavish expenses and close departments and ministries not related to public service, such as the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), which is notorious for corruption.

PM Shehbaz mentioned that a ministerial committee has been formed to deliberate on the issue of redundant ministries and departments, believing that “this is a step that will save billions.”

Furthermore, the prime minister stated that the government has decided to privatize all organizations and institutions that are causing billions in losses.
