Lahore, July 06, 2024: To enhance security during the holy month of Muharram, the Punjab home department has enforced Section 144 throughout the province.

According to a notification from the department, this measure includes several restrictions aimed at maintaining public order during the month.

The display of firearms and ammunition in public places will be prohibited without proper permission.

Additionally, there will be a ban on pillion riding of motorcycles from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram, with exceptions for elderly citizens, women, and forces personnel.

The ban will be in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram.

Provocative speeches and slogans are also prohibited under Section 144. The regulation includes a ban on constructing bunkers on rooftops and storing stones, bricks, bottles, or garbage on roofs along the routes of Muharram processions.

Earlier, the Punjab Home Department issued stringent security guidelines to ensure peace during the religious observances.

A total of 37,376 Majalis and 10,426 processions are scheduled to take place under a comprehensive security plan.

Furthermore, 502 locations across Punjab have been identified as sensitive. Army and Rangers personnel will be deployed at these sites to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.
