Islamabad, July 14, 2024: In a historic move, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched the first-ever Climate Change Fund in Islamabad, aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

This initiative, spearheaded by Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, represents a significant stride in addressing environmental challenges in the region.

Commending these efforts, Interior Minister Naqvi praised CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and his team for their proactive stance. “The CDA team deserves commendation for their initiative,” he affirmed.

As part of the Climate Change Initiative, the CDA is introducing a “Carbon Credit Program” with plans to plant 4 to 5 million trees across 2000-10,000 kanals throughout the city.

Chairman Randhawa emphasized that new sectors, avenues, and open spaces have been earmarked for this extensive tree planting campaign.

In addition to establishing the Climate Change Fund, the CDA has also sanctioned the “Margalla Hills Fund,” which will allocate 1.5% of revenue generated from recreational spots in Margalla Hills towards their preservation and enhancement.

This initiative aims to safeguard the natural beauty and ecological equilibrium of one of Islamabad’s most treasured landmarks.

With these initiatives, Islamabad sets a pioneering example in climate action, promising a greener and more sustainable future for its residents.
