Ashura 2024: Jinnah hospital reports 200 heatstroke cases

Karachi, July 17, 2024: As Ashura processions continue in Karachi, Jinnah Hospital has reported over 200 heatstroke cases at its camp in Numaish.

The city’s Jinnah Hospital set up a camp for Youm-e-Ashur, and as of 1 pm, 200 heatstroke cases have been reported.

According to Dr. Shahid Rasul, Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital, all affected individuals have received initial medical aid. The hospital has implemented measures to ensure the timely treatment of heatstroke patients.

Karachi Heat

Karachi is currently experiencing severe heat, with temperatures soaring to 40°C and the “feels like” temperature reaching 52°C. According to the Meteorological Department, the humidity level is at 53%, intensifying the heat.

The Met Office has forecast a high of 41°C for the day, with a chance of scattered rain in the evening or night. Northwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of 13 km/h, and the suspended sea breeze is exacerbating the heatwave conditions. Citizens have been warned to take precautions against the heat and humidity.
