Jamaat-e-Islami

Karachi, August 01, 2024: On Thursday, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) announced a new date for its sit-in outside the Sindh Governor’s House.

The sit-in, initially scheduled for July 31, was postponed due to the martyrdom of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh.

According to a JI spokesperson, the rescheduled sit-in will take place on August 3 (Saturday) at 5 pm. The protest is aimed at opposing the inclusion of taxes on electricity bills, the slab system, and issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by JI Karachi Ameer Munam Zafar. JI has been protesting in Rawalpindi over inflated bills, IPP issues, and the slab system in power bills for the past six days.

JI Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Butt decided to hold the Karachi sit-in, and the party’s Karachi chief was sent back to the city to organize the protest.

The original sit-in date was postponed following the announcement of Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran. Hamas reported that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli strike while attending the inauguration of Iran’s new president.
