In a remarkable debut at the inaugural International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2024) held in the Philippines, Pakistan’s team achieved notable success by securing two silver and two bronze medals.
Suleman Nouman from Siddeeq Public School, Islamabad, and Subhan Kashif from Lahore Grammar School earned silver medals, while Ehban Awan from Karachi Grammar School and Qasim Salam from Siddeeq Public School Rawalpindi received bronze medals.
The Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), the top-ranking engineering university under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), selected these students from across the country through rigorous testing.
They were subsequently trained at PIEAS under the guidance of Dr. Sajjad Tahir from PIEAS and Dr. Muhammad Maqsood from the Education Directorate of PAEC to prepare for the Olympiad.
INSO-2024, held in Clark, Philippines from August 1-6, 2024, was sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other international institutions.
The achievements of these students, along with the support of their parents, teachers, and mentors from PIEAS and PAEC, are commendable. Their success on the global stage highlights Pakistan’s growing prowess in nuclear science.
This accomplishment follows recent wins by Pakistani students in International Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics Olympiads, adding a significant achievement in the field of Nuclear Science to the country’s list of accolades.
