Karachi, August 07, 2024: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the nationwide monsoon tree plantation drive on Wednesday by planting a sapling.
During the event, the prime minister announced that he had instructed relevant departments and institutions to plant at least 100 million saplings across the country, including in Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), to mitigate the impacts of climate change that severely affected the country in 2022.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that the tree plantation effort would also help reduce air pollution.
He urged federal and provincial authorities to actively participate in extending the plantation drive to every corner of Pakistan, aiming to make the country greener and free of pollution.
The prime minister called on all Pakistani citizens to join the government in this initiative to protect the country from climate change disasters and promote a healthy environment.
During the occasion, PM Shehbaz was briefed on the region-specific plantation targets across the country.
