KARACHI, October 19, 2024: In a significant operation led by the Pakistan Customs at the International Mail Office (IMO), authorities have successfully intercepted 3.8 kilograms of marijuana concealed in parcels disguised as food items and candies. The operation was initiated following actionable intelligence passed by Collector JIAP Adeem Khan to ADC Airport Muhammad Faysal Khan, which prompted increased vigilance at the IMO.

The parcel, booked by an individual named Tan from Bangkok, Thailand, was addressed to Mrs. Mirza Junaid of DHA Karachi. Upon inspection, customs officials discovered the illegal substance hidden beneath declarations of foodstuff and candies.

According to reports, the staff at the IMO, including AC Sharjeel Wassan and the Customs team, were sensitized to enhance monitoring efforts, particularly on imports from Thailand. Continuous surveillance of EMS import parcels led to the successful recovery of the concealed narcotics.

Preliminary testing on-site confirmed the substance was marijuana, with an estimated market value of approximately 15 million PKR. Customs officials have seized the narcotics and are in the process of lodging an FIR to investigate further and apprehend the individuals behind this narco network.

This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of Pakistan Customs to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and security of the community.
