Student Councils: Training Grounds for Future Leaders

MITE

KARACHI, December 05 2024: Majyd Aziz, former President of the Employers Federation of Pakistan, emphasized the vital role of student councils in nurturing future leaders. Addressing the Millenium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (MITE) Student Council, he urged members to view themselves as the leaders of the student body and stressed the importance of fostering unity without indulging in negative politics during their tenure. He reminded them that the collective objectives, goals, and demands of all students are significant and must be addressed with fairness.

Aziz highlighted that the experiences gained from student leadership roles would serve as invaluable lessons in their future professional lives, whether in trade bodies, professional organizations, or their respective careers. He also shared that, had he been involved in student leadership during his university years, it would have given him the critical foundation to lead in other spheres later on.

Furthermore, Aziz noted that, from a corporate perspective, he would prioritize the leadership qualities of Student Council members over those from other social clubs such as the Rotary or Lions Club. He emphasized the importance of making MITE a globally recognized institution, where alumni could proudly declare, “I am proud to be an alumnus of MITE.”

Reflecting on his own journey, Aziz attributed much of his success in the Employers Federation, Karachi Chamber of Commerce, and the South Asian Forum of Employers to the respect he earned through honesty, courage, and passion in leadership.
