KARACHI, January 31 2025: Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Finance Minister, congratulated Easypaisa Digital Bank on successfully transforming into the country’s first digital bank after securing the coveted digital banking license from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The celebration took place at a dinner hosted by Irfan Wahab Khan, Chairman of the Board, and Jahanzeb Khan, President & CEO of Easypaisa Digital Bank.
Addressing an audience of government officials, including Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervez Malik and Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad, along with foreign ambassadors, dignitaries, and business leaders, the Finance Minister praised this milestone as a key step in Pakistan’s digitalization journey.
Easypaisa Digital Bank made history by becoming Pakistan’s first Digital Retail Bank to receive commercial approval from SBP under its Licensing and Regulatory Framework for Digital Banks.
Congratulating the Easypaisa Digital Bank leadership, the Finance Minister stated, “This achievement marks a new era for Pakistan’s financial sector. The shift from cash-based transactions to digital banking is just beginning. By integrating platforms like Raast and Nadra, we can drive financial inclusion and empower Pakistanis across the country.”
Irfan Wahab Khan, Chairman of the Board, highlighted the transformation, saying, “Our journey from Pakistan’s first mobile money service to the country’s first digital bank is remarkable. With over 50 million registered users, this digital banking license enables us to expand financial services and improve lives nationwide.”
