Islamabad, February 08, 2024 : On Thursday, the Interior Ministry revealed that mobile phone services have been partially reinstated in certain regions of the country while the nation eagerly anticipates the outcome of the crucial 2024 elections.
The ministry, communicating via X (formerly Twitter), announced the reinstatement of cellular services in Bhakkar, Sargodha, Taxila, Gujar Khan Chakri, Loralai, Sibi, Jhal Magsi, and across all of Sindh except for Malir and Karachi.

In a subsequent update, the ministry assured that mobile phone services would soon be reinstated nationwide.
Earlier today, the ministry had announced the suspension of mobile phone and internet services across Pakistan to uphold law and order during the 2024 elections.
“In light of recent acts of terrorism resulting in loss of life, security measures are imperative to maintain order and address potential threats, hence the temporary suspension of mobile services nationwide,” stated the interior ministry on X.
The General Election 2024 concluded peacefully today with a day-long polling process, witnessing enthusiastic participation from voters of all ages who turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots for their chosen candidates.
Polling commenced simultaneously nationwide at 8 am and continued uninterrupted until 5 pm, allowing citizens ample time to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
A spokesperson for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stated that voters present at polling stations at the end of the polling period were permitted to cast their ballots.
The ECP reported that over 128 million registered voters were expected to exercise their democratic right by voting for candidates contesting in elections for national and provincial legislatures.
Polling was conducted for 265 seats in the National Assembly and 590 seats in provincial assemblies. This included voting for 51 seats in the Balochistan Assembly, 128 out of 130 seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 296 out of 297 seats in the Punjab Assembly, and 130 seats in the Sindh Assembly.
The polling covered 855 constituencies out of 859. However, due to the unfortunate death of a candidate, voting will not take place in NA 8, PP 266, PK 22, and PK 91.
