Rain reduces smog level in Lahore

Lahore, November 10, 2023 : Extensive rainfall in Lahore has diminished the intensity of the dense smog that had shrouded the provincial capital of Punjab for an extended period.

Details indicate that the Air Quality Index (AQI), previously recorded at 468, has now plummeted to 119 following substantial rainfall in Lahore and its neighboring regions.

As per the Air Quality Index, Lahore, previously labeled as the most polluted city, has witnessed a significant reduction in the issue due to the rain.

Following this heavy downpour, the temperature significantly dropped, and low-lying areas in the twin cities and other districts of Punjab experienced flooding. The rain led to disruptions in electricity supply, plunging the affected areas into darkness.

The rain brought a sense of relief to people who had been enduring a prolonged dry spell, resulting in ailments such as sore throat, dry cough, and flu.

In response to the poor air quality and toxic haze, Punjab implemented a smart lockdown in various districts. Health experts are optimistic that the showers will contribute to enhancing air quality and alleviating airborne diseases.

The MET Office forecasts additional rain, along with thunderstorms, in Lahore and nearby areas within the next 24 hours. The anticipation of more showers, coupled with strong winds, raises hopes for further improvement in air quality in the region.
