Islamabad, November 16, 2023 : On Thursday, former first lady Bushra Bibi expressed a ‘no-trust’ sentiment in Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.
During the hearing of a plea requesting a private meeting between herself and her incarcerated husband, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, in Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi raised a ‘no-confidence’ issue in IHC CJ Aamer Farooq. Subsequently, she requested the transfer of her plea to another bench.
The former first lady’s lawyer, presenting arguments before the IHC, stated that they are receiving decisions on pleas from the bench of IHC CJ that are ‘similar in nature.’
During the hearing, the lawyer requested the IHC CJ to transfer all their cases to another bench. The IHC CJ responded, “Don’t make this plea; you are speaking inappropriately,” and added that they would review the matter. Subsequently, the court issued notices to the bar councils based on Bushra Bibi’s plea.
It is noteworthy that the spouse of the PTI chief, in her plea, mentioned that, in compliance with court directives, she was permitted to meet her husband every Tuesday. Nevertheless, the presence of jail staff during these meetings compromised the privacy necessary for discussing family matters. As a result, she requested the issuance of directives to the superintendent of Adiala Jail to facilitate private meetings with the PTI chief.
