Karachi, November 18, 2023 : City traffic police has declared a ban on motorbike riding without helmets on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
DIG Karachi Traffic Police Iqbal Dara stated that, beginning with Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi roads are off-limits for motorcycle riders without helmets. Non-compliance will result in legal consequences, and heavy traffic and bikers are prohibited from using the fast lane, he added. Additionally, Dara mentioned that the police have increased efforts to crack down on underage drivers in the city.
The Lahore traffic police, acting on the directives of Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has conducted widespread arrests of underage drivers. This crackdown comes in response to the tragic incident in the Defence area last week, where six members of a family lost their lives in a horrifying road accident.
In the course of the crackdowns, 1,632 underage drivers were apprehended within four days, and cases were registered against them. Moreover, the CTO Lahore issued show cause notices to six sector in-charges for ineffective enforcement actions.
