Toyota Marks 35 Years of Manufacturing Excellence and Industry Leadership in Pakistan

KARACHI, May 18, 2026: Indus Motor Company celebrated 35 years of Toyota’s presence in Pakistan on May 15, 2026. Over the years, the company has sold more than 1.2 million vehicles nationwide and strengthened Pakistan’s automotive industry through manufacturing excellence and localization.

Today, IMC’s network of dealers and suppliers supports over 55,000 jobs across the country. In addition, the company has contributed nearly USD 6.3 billion in taxes over the past 35 years, accounting for around 1% of Pakistan’s annual tax collection.

The company held a ceremony at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Port Qasim, Karachi. Several senior officials attended the event, including Shuichi Akamatsu, Hiroshi Nambu, Masahiko Maeda, Shigeru Harada, Mohamedali Rafiq Habib, and Ali Asghar Jamali, along with 3,000 employees.

IMC rolled out its first Toyota Corolla nearly 35 years ago. Since then, the company has expanded its annual production capacity from 5,000 vehicles to 76,000 vehicles. Moreover, it has helped build a strong local engineering and supplier base in Pakistan.

Currently, local vendors supply more than Rs210 million worth of parts every working day for Toyota vehicle production. Furthermore, IMC distributes vehicles through a network of 58 authorized dealerships nationwide.

The company also acknowledged the Government of Pakistan for supporting the automotive sector through favorable policies and localization initiatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Shuichi Akamatsu described Toyota as a symbol of the strong partnership between Pakistan and Japan. He added that Toyota’s continued investment reflects growing economic cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Hiroshi Nambu credited Toyota’s success in Pakistan to customer trust, strong partnerships, and a commitment to quality and safety. He also praised IMC employees for helping the company achieve Zero Defect status in Toyota Motor Corporation’s quality audits for two consecutive years.

Similarly, Shigeru Harada appreciated IMC’s localization and technology transfer efforts. According to him, these initiatives have helped Pakistan save nearly USD 6.5 billion in foreign exchange while strengthening the local automotive ecosystem.

Chairman Mohamedali Rafiq Habib said Toyota’s long-term investment has transferred global best practices and enhanced local capabilities across Pakistan’s dealer and supplier network.

At the same time, CEO Ali Asghar Jamali revealed that IMC has invested USD 736 million over the past 35 years. Moreover, the company plans to invest another USD 300 million during the next five years. He also highlighted IMC’s social initiatives under “Concern Beyond Cars,” which benefit more than 200,000 people annually.

In addition, Jamali stressed the need for a stable and forward-looking auto policy to support localization, reduce imports, and strengthen Pakistan’s industrial competitiveness.

As part of the celebrations, guests planted Toyota’s one millionth tree under the company’s “Green Pakistan” initiative. Consequently, IMC became the first automotive company in Pakistan to achieve this milestone within five years.

Indus Motor Company was established in 1989 as a joint venture between the House of Habib, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Toyota Motor Corporation. Today, it serves as the authorized manufacturer and assembler of Toyota vehicles, parts, and accessories in Pakistan.
