Cement prices go up in Pakistan

Islamabad, July 07, 2024: The price of a 50 kg cement bag has surged by up to Rs207 within a week in Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

PBS documents indicate that the price of a 50 kg bag of cement has now reached as high as Rs1,500 nationwide.

Specifically, Lahore and Peshawar are experiencing the highest cement prices. In Larkana, the price of a 50 kg bag increased by Rs207 in just one week. Additionally, Peshawar saw a rise of Rs177, Bannu Rs163, and Quetta Rs160 per 50 kg bag.

In Sargodha, the price surged by Rs160, while in Multan, it saw an increase of Rs155. Islamabad experienced a rise of Rs151, and both Karachi and Lahore witnessed a price hike of Rs150 per bag.

Other notable increases include Gujranwala at Rs147, Faisalabad at Rs140, and Sialkot at Rs130. Hyderabad saw a rise of Rs120, while Rawalpindi experienced a price hike of Rs107. Khuzdar had a relatively smaller increase of Rs23 per 50 kg bag within the week.

The price surge follows an increase in the Federal Excise Duty on cement from Rs3 to Rs4 per kg, as outlined in the federal budget.

In May 2024, Pakistan’s cement sector witnessed a substantial 72.16% increase in exports, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association. Cement exports totaled 917,962 tons, marking a significant rise from 533,215 tons exported in the previous year.
