August 13, 2026 — Karachi: Talks between petroleum dealers and the government ended without an agreement in Islamabad on Thursday, with the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) maintaining its decision to go on strike on Saturday morning.
A delegation of petroleum dealers from across Pakistan, led by PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh, held talks with the Ministry of Petroleum. The dealers urged Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to honour his earlier commitment to approve their demands within 15 days.
The talks remained tense and continued for nearly five hours. However, the federal petroleum minister did not agree to fulfil the commitment.
The dealers said the government also refused to change the existing system of daily revisions in petroleum product prices. The government, however, assured the delegation that it would consider increasing dealers’ margins by Rs1.34 per litre, subject to approval by the federal cabinet.
The minister also expressed displeasure over the 72-hour ultimatum issued by petroleum dealers.
Following the unsuccessful talks, the dealers decided to return to Karachi. The PPDA also called an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee in Karachi to discuss the next course of action.
PPDA Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh said dealers remained firm on their strike decision. He announced that petroleum dealers would shut their businesses from Saturday morning if their demands were not addressed.
