KARACHI Aug 15,2026: A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister Saeed Ghani attended the event as the chief guest.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, KITE Limited Chairman Zahid Saeed, former KATI leaders, industrialists and members also attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Saeed Ghani said Pakistan could solve its economic problems through better policies and collective efforts. He said economic growth was “not rocket science” and called for the country’s tax base to be expanded and doubled.
Ghani said Pakistan currently contributes Rs260 billion to the federation. He said higher tax compliance could generate more funds for development. He also stressed the need for national unity and urged political groups to keep national interests above their differences.
The minister praised the role of Pakistani institutions, youth and media in recent national developments. He urged citizens and institutions to remain confident in Pakistan’s ability to overcome its challenges.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said Pakistan was moving towards a stronger Muslim strategic and economic bloc. Referring to the recent agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, he described it as an important development. He also expressed hope that Iran would join the emerging partnership.
Rajput said industrial growth and trade promotion were vital for Pakistan’s economic progress. He urged the government to create a business-friendly environment and ensure policy continuity.
He also called for solutions to energy and infrastructure problems. In addition, he stressed the need for a simple and transparent tax system, stronger rule of law and steps to restore investor confidence.
KATI Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya said Pakistan had continued to progress despite major challenges. He said the country’s achievements over the past two decades showed its potential for further growth.
Chhaya said stronger regional partnerships could improve Pakistan’s international position. He added that such cooperation could also support economic stability and national security.
On taxation, Chhaya called for greater respect for taxpayers. He said recognising compliant taxpayers could encourage more people and businesses to enter the tax system.
He urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to support traders and industrialists through Parliament. Chhaya also criticised the attitude of tax authorities. He said it was discouraging industrialists and could push some businesses to consider leaving Pakistan.
He appreciated the Sindh government’s support for the business community. He said Karachi had the potential to play a major role in helping Pakistan overcome its economic challenges.
The ceremony concluded with Saeed Ghani cutting an Independence Day cake. Participants expressed their commitment to Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity and economic stability.
