August 12, 2026 — Karachi: United Business Group (UBG) President and former Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Zubair Tufail has welcomed the joint defense agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Makkah, describing it as an important step toward stronger defense, diplomatic and strategic cooperation among the three Muslim countries.
Tufail said the agreement comes at a time when the world is facing multiple crises, trade disputes, regional conflicts and geopolitical changes. He said closer cooperation among major Muslim countries could strengthen their security, sovereignty and collective confidence.
He noted that divisions among Muslim countries have historically weakened their political and economic position. According to him, the Makkah agreement provides a fresh opportunity for Muslim countries to overcome differences and work together on common interests.
Tufail said the agreement could strengthen cooperation in areas including defense information sharing, joint military exercises, security technology, arms production and cyber defense. He added that the pact could provide a stronger foundation for relations among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
He said the agreement is particularly significant for Pakistan because of its defense capabilities and longstanding relations with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Greater cooperation among the three countries, he added, could also create opportunities for Pakistan’s economy, industry, trade and investment.
Tufail emphasized that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye should expand their defense cooperation into broader economic partnerships. Joint ventures in industry, trade, infrastructure, energy and technology could open new markets, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
He stressed that the Makkah agreement should not remain limited to defense cooperation. Instead, it should become a foundation for wider economic, political, diplomatic and social cooperation among the three countries.
