Spotify Introduces AI Persona Label for AI-Generated Artist Profiles

KARACHI, August 12, 2026: Spotify has introduced a new “AI Persona” label for artist profiles that use AI-generated, human-like identities.

The new label aims to give listeners more clarity about who they are listening to. It is also part of Spotify’s wider effort to improve transparency and build trust between artists and their fans.

Spotify said the AI Persona badge will start appearing on selected artist profiles from mid-September. Users will see the badge on artist pages, in Search and next to tracks in playlists.

Listeners can tap the badge to find out why the profile has been labelled. The artist may have identified the profile as an AI Persona, or Spotify may have applied the label after reviewing it.

Artists can now disclose their AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists. However, the company said it will also review profiles independently.

Spotify will look at an artist’s public identity, including the profile name and images. It will identify profiles that appear to represent photorealistic, AI-generated people.

The initial rollout will focus on artists that meet specific audience thresholds. Spotify said this will help ensure that the label reaches the artist profiles most frequently visited by listeners.

AI Personas will not normally appear in Spotify’s editorial or algorithmic recommendations. However, users can still discover their music if they follow the artist or choose to listen to their songs.

Spotify stressed that the label is about an artist’s public identity, not the way the music was produced. Artists can use AI during the creative process without their profiles automatically being classified as AI Personas.

Spotify already offers AI Credits and SongDNA to provide information about the use of AI in music production. These tools allow artists to explain how AI contributed to the creation of their songs.

If Spotify applies an AI Persona label after its review, the artist will receive a notification. The artist can then disclose the status themselves or appeal the decision.

The company also plans to introduce a reporting feature for listeners. This will allow users to report profiles they believe represent AI-generated identities.

The new label follows several other measures introduced by Spotify this year, including Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, AI Credits and Artist Profile Protection.

With the AI Persona label, Spotify aims to give listeners clearer information about artist identities as generative AI becomes increasingly common in the music industry.
