ISLAMABAD, July 30, 2026: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan directed authorities to strictly enforce axle load regulations across Pakistan, ordering tighter monitoring at ports, weigh stations, and highways to curb vehicle overloading and protect road infrastructure.
He issued the directives while chairing a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Communications to review the implementation of axle load management across the country.
Officials from the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) briefed the minister that axle load enforcement on motorways remains satisfactory but requires stronger implementation on national highways. They also presented assessments highlighting infrastructure damage caused by overloaded vehicles.
Aleem Khan called for zero tolerance against overloading and ordered authorities to begin strict enforcement as trucks leave Karachi Port. He instructed the NHMP, National Highway Authority (NHA), and traffic police to maintain round-the-clock monitoring at weigh stations.
Furthermore, the minister directed officials to establish a transparent accountability system for weigh stations to eliminate enforcement gaps. He also called for heavy financial penalties to discourage transporters from exceeding legal load limits.
In addition, Aleem Khan stressed the need for close coordination with provincial transport departments to ensure uniform enforcement across provincial boundaries. He also ordered the immediate removal of legal and regulatory gaps that hinder implementation.
To oversee the reforms, the minister announced the formation of a dedicated working group headed by the Secretary for Communications.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mahsood, Chairman NHA Capt. (Retd.) Asadullah Khan, IG NHMP Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry, DG Frontier Works Organisation Major General Abdul Sami, DG National Logistics Cell Major General Rao Farrukh, along with representatives from provincial transport departments and industry stakeholders.
