Islamabad, August 4, 2025: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Muqam, called August 5, 2019, a black day in the history of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). On that day, India revoked Kashmir’s special status and divided the region into two union territories.
He said India’s actions aimed to weaken Kashmir’s internationally recognized status and disempower Kashmiri Muslims in their own land. Since then, India has introduced laws to change the region’s demographics, such as allowing outsiders to get domicile certificates and own land.
Amir Muqam also noted that changes were made to election boundaries and administrative powers, and Kashmir’s culture and identity are being suppressed. He condemned these moves as violations of international law and UN resolutions.
He highlighted the continued imprisonment of Kashmiri leaders and activists, strict laws giving Indian forces impunity, and recent house demolitions. He praised the courage of Kashmiris facing these harsh conditions.
The minister urged the international community to press India to improve human rights, release political prisoners, and follow UN Security Council resolutions.
He assured that Pakistan will keep supporting Kashmiris’ right to self-determination politically, diplomatically, and morally.
