August 14, 2026 — Karachi: Pro Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Professor Sajida Qureshi, has congratulated students and faculty on Independence Day and said freedom is a great blessing. She stressed that protecting it and contributing to Pakistan’s development is the responsibility of every citizen.
She expressed these views while addressing an Independence Day ceremony at Dow Medical College, which was attended by students and faculty members. A separate ceremony was also held at Dow University Hospital, where flag-hoisting and cake-cutting ceremonies were organized.
Professor Sajida Qureshi said the younger generation, particularly medical students, can play an important role in building a stronger and more developed Pakistan. She said education, research and service to humanity can help young people contribute to the country’s progress.
Principal Dow Medical College Professor Saba Sohail, Professor Sanam Soomro, Professor Amanullah Abbasi, Professor Danish Hussain, Professor Mazhar and members of the administrative staff attended the ceremony.
Professor Sajida Qureshi and Professor Saba Sohail hoisted the national flag. Participants also offered special prayers for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, progress and stability.
The ceremony reflected a strong spirit of patriotism. Students raised slogans including “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pakistan Ka Matlab Kya.” National songs also added to the festive atmosphere.
Female students of Dow Medical College organized a special Meena Bazaar as part of the celebrations. Various stalls were set up, while the venue was decorated with the national flag and green-and-white colours.
At Dow University Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr. Khursheed Samoo hoisted the national flag. Director OPD Professor Zeba Ahmed, Professor Rashid Bin Hamid and other staff members also participated in the ceremony.
The celebrations highlighted the importance of national unity, patriotism and the role of young people in contributing to Pakistan’s future.
