Swabi/Mardan, September 3, 2026: Philip Morris (Pakistan) Limited (PMPKL) has successfully completed its Skills Training Project 2026, providing vocational training to 964 adolescents from tobacco-growing communities.
The company marked the achievement with a graduation and exhibition ceremony in Swabi, attended by trainees, trainers, government officials, farmers, and PMPKL management.
Launched in 2021, the project aims to provide adolescent children of contracted tobacco farmers with practical skills, learning opportunities, and future livelihood pathways. The initiative also supports efforts to address child labour risks in tobacco-growing communities.
In 2026, 481 boys and 483 girls aged 13 to 17 completed the program. Boys received training in Building Electrician and Agricultural Sciences, while girls were trained in Tailoring, Embroidery, and Food Preparation & Preservation.
Graduates will receive Trade Testing Board-accredited certificates and starter toolkits, including sewing machines and electrician toolkits, to help them apply their skills and pursue future economic opportunities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Abid Javed, Director Leaf, PMPKL, said the project has empowered nearly 5,000 boys and girls since 2021 with market-relevant skills that can strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and economic participation.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and recognition awards, marking another milestone in PMPKL’s efforts to promote skills development, economic inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods in tobacco-growing communities
