Medical Experts Urge Parents to Curb Fast Food Consumption Among Children

KARACHI, October 5, 2026: Medical experts have urged parents to discourage children from consuming excessive fast food as Pakistan faces a growing burden of heart and other lifestyle-related diseases.

The experts stressed the need for healthier diets, regular physical activity and other lifestyle changes to protect younger generations from cardiovascular diseases.

They expressed these views while speaking at a medical camp organised in collaboration with Aga Khan University Hospital at the Karachi Press Club.

Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jameeli, Secretary Muhammad Aslam Khan, senior journalists Maqsood Yousufi and Muhammad Naseer, and members of the Health Committee attended the camp.

Representatives from Aga Khan University Hospital included Dr. Javaid A. Khan, Professor of Pulmonology, and Dr. Yawer Saeed, Assistant Professor of Cardiology. Other faculty members, Communications Department representative Adil Siddiqui and spokesperson Shabbir Alam also participated.

The medical camp offered various health screening services. These included echocardiograms and ECG tests for press club members.

Karachi Press Club Secretary Muhammad Aslam Khan appreciated Aga Khan University Hospital for organising the camp. He said private healthcare services were becoming increasingly expensive for ordinary patients.

He also thanked the hospital and its Communications Department for helping press club members access medical services.

Dr. Javaid A. Khan said regular physical activity, a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle could help prevent cardiovascular diseases.

He urged parents to discourage children and young people from consuming fast food regularly. Instead, he recommended increasing the intake of vegetables and other nutritious foods.

The pulmonologist also stressed the importance of lifestyle changes and regular exercise. He urged people to avoid smoking and other forms of tobacco, warning that tobacco use can increase the risk of several diseases.

Dr. Yawer Saeed said cardiovascular diseases were reaching alarming levels in Pakistan and across Asia. He noted that heart attacks had also become increasingly common among younger people over the past decade.

He advised people to practise dietary moderation and avoid excessive eating. A balanced and nutritious diet, he said, along with positive lifestyle changes, could help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
