KARACHI, June 18, 2026: Chairman of the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP), Malik Muhammad Bostan, says Pakistan’s youth is its biggest asset. However, he stresses that the country must adopt an urgent national skills development policy to turn this potential into economic strength.
He says that if Pakistan trains young people in technical and vocational skills aligned with global demand, it can reduce unemployment. Moreover, he adds, the country can also earn billions of dollars in additional remittances.
Bostan notes that millions of Pakistanis have gone abroad in recent years for better opportunities. These include not only unskilled workers but also doctors, engineers, IT professionals, and nurses. In addition, he expresses concern that many students who go abroad for higher education do not return due to attractive career prospects, which leads to a loss of skilled human capital.
He further highlights strong global demand for Pakistani workers in Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Moreover, he points to large-scale Gulf development projects that continue to increase demand for skilled labour. As a result, he says Pakistan can significantly boost remittances if it trains and exports a skilled workforce at scale.
He also urges Pakistani industries to adopt environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly practices. In addition, he says firms must align with global standards to stay competitive and expand exports.
Finally, Bostan calls on the government to reduce electricity and gas tariffs and lower production costs. He also urges a review of budgetary measures that burden businesses. Furthermore, he recommends making commercial counsellors in Pakistani embassies more active in promoting local products in global markets
