PESHAWAR Aug 17,2026: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched two new initiatives worth a combined Rs1.2 billion to economically and educationally empower persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The government has allocated Rs500 million for the Ehsaas Loan Programme, which will provide interest-free loans to persons with disabilities on easy terms.
The loans will help beneficiaries start small businesses, earn a stable income and become financially self-reliant. The programme has been included in the province’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the current financial year.
The provincial government has also allocated Rs700 million for the Ehsaas Scholarship Programme for students with disabilities.
The scholarship programme aims to support deserving students and help them pursue higher education. It is designed to reduce financial barriers and provide students with greater educational opportunities.
Advisor to the KP Chief Minister on Social Welfare Malik Liaquat Ali Khan said the Ehsaas Umeed Card Programme would also be launched soon.
Under the programme, 10,000 persons with disabilities will receive a monthly stipend of Rs5,000.
A similar card-based initiative will also be introduced for orphans and widows. Eligible beneficiaries under the programme will receive Rs5,000 per month.
The government plans to transfer all financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. The system is intended to improve transparency and ensure that support reaches deserving people directly.
The Social Welfare Department will also introduce doorstep registration facilities. Persons with disabilities and other deserving individuals will not need to visit government offices. Instead, department officials will visit households to register eligible beneficiaries and collect the required information.
During the occasion, Malik Liaquat Ali Khan also announced Rs50,000 in financial assistance for an elderly person with a disability. He directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to address the problems faced by persons with disabilities.
He further announced that a special quota for persons with disabilities would be allocated in the Dowry Fund to help reduce the financial burden on them and their families.
The new initiatives reflect the KP government’s efforts to expand social protection, improve access to education and promote economic independence among vulnerable communities.
