Karachi: Pakistan met 86 percent of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting the continued growth of the country’s domestic handset production ecosystem.

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local mobile phone companies manufactured or assembled 2.79 million units in March 2026, registering a 20 percent year-on-year increase compared to 2.33 million units in March 2025.

On a cumulative basis, local production reached 7.36 million units during 1Q2026, showing a modest growth of 2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Industry data further revealed that a significant portion of the country’s mobile phone demand is now being fulfilled through locally assembled devices, reducing reliance on imports and supporting the development of the domestic manufacturing sector.

Among the top-performing brands, VGO TEL led the market with 1.12 million units assembled during the quarter. It was followed by Infinix with 0.75 million units, Vivo with 0.56 million units, and Samsung with 0.52 million units.

Other key players included Itel (0.50 million units), Tecno (0.44 million units), Nokia (0.40 million units), X Mobile (0.35 million units), OPPO (0.29 million units), and Realme (0.27 million units).

The steady rise in local manufacturing highlights the impact of policy support and increasing investment in assembly facilities, positioning Pakistan as an emerging hub for mobile phone production in the region.
