KARACHI, August 11, 2026: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Parliamentary Leader and Pakistan Peoples Party spokesperson Karamullah Waqasi has praised the contributions of minority communities to Pakistan’s development and national life.
In a message marking National Minorities Day, Waqasi said minority citizens have contributed to education, healthcare, the judiciary, civil services, armed forces, trade and industry since Pakistan’s independence.
He said August 11 has been observed as National Minorities Day since 2009 to highlight minority rights, equality and religious harmony.
Waqasi said the five percent job quota for minorities and reserved seats in Parliament and provincial assemblies provide mechanisms for their economic and political participation. He called for effective and transparent implementation of the employment quota to ensure equal opportunities for minority youth.
He also stressed the need for greater participation of minorities in mainstream politics and leadership.
Waqasi highlighted the role of Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Parsi and other communities in Karachi’s social, economic and commercial development. He said their contributions should be recognized and protected.
He added that Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab recently organized a Minorities Day programme at Frere Hall to acknowledge the services of minority communities.
