KARACHI, September 1, 2025: BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs), has announced that its Shark 6 pickup has been awarded a coveted 5-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The Shark 6 is also the first plug-in hybrid pickup to be tested under ANCAP’s rigorous protocols.
The 5-star rating underscores the Shark 6’s advanced crash protection and safety technologies, with maximum scores achieved in side impact and oblique pole crash tests. The evaluation covered adult and child occupant protection, pedestrian safety, and active driver-assist features, placing the Shark 6 among the safest vehicles in its category worldwide.
In Pakistan, the recognition strengthens BYD’s positioning as a premium mobility brand. “For BYD, safety isn’t just a feature, it’s the very foundation of everything we build,” said Lei Jian, Country Head of BYD Pakistan. “This recognition reinforces our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology while ensuring road safety and peace of mind for families, commuters, and adventurers alike. With the Shark 6, we are redefining what a pickup can be combining toughness, innovation, and uncompromising safety.”
The Shark 6 is equipped with dual frontal, side, and center airbags, autonomous emergency braking for cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and a driver monitoring system that detects fatigue and distraction.
The vehicle also excelled in Child Occupant Protection, achieving top marks for rear-seat safety. Its advanced Child Presence Detection system automatically activates air-conditioning if an unattended child is detected, ensuring comfort and protection for families.
With this milestone, the BYD Shark 6 has set a new global benchmark for pickup safety, offering Pakistani consumers a vehicle that blends strength, innovation, and world-class protection.
