KARACHI, September 5, 2026: United Business Group (UBG) President and former Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Zubair Tufail has welcomed the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) continued support for Pakistan’s development and economic growth.
Tufail said ADB’s focus on increasing private sector participation and promoting innovative investment could help Pakistan address its development needs.
He said greater use of public-private partnerships (PPPs) would reduce pressure on the government’s limited resources. At the same time, private investment and expertise could help improve infrastructure and public services.
Tufail welcomed ADB’s support for key areas including Pakistan Railways, modern agriculture, digital transformation, workforce development and infrastructure.
He also described the recent visit of ADB Vice President for South, Central and West Asia Yingming Yang to Pakistan as a positive development.
Yang held meetings with senior government officials, business leaders and development partners during his visit. According to Tufail, the engagement shows that international financial institutions continue to see potential in Pakistan’s economic recovery and growth.
Tufail said Pakistan urgently needs large-scale investment in railways, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and digital technology. He also stressed the need to develop modern skills among the country’s workforce.
He said ADB cooperation in upgrading Pakistan Railways, developing infrastructure and supporting other major projects could play an important role in strengthening the economy.
The UBG president also welcomed ADB’s interest in modern agriculture, digital transformation and future skills development in Punjab.
He said Pakistan’s growing young population needs modern skills to benefit from employment and business opportunities at home and abroad.
Tufail said economic stability alone would not be enough. Pakistan also needs structural reforms, an investor-friendly business environment and greater opportunities for the private sector.
These measures, he said, are essential to attract more domestic and foreign investment.
Tufail expressed hope that stronger cooperation between ADB and Pakistan would support sustainable economic growth, create jobs and help address the country’s major development needs.
