KARACHI July 1 ,2026: The federal government has directed all public and private sector organizations to establish fully functional Cyber Security Operations Centres (SOCs) within the next six months to strengthen Pakistan’s cyber defenses against emerging digital threats.
The directive was announced by Dr. Haider Abbas, Director General of the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PKCERT), while addressing Fortinet Security Day Pakistan 2026 in Karachi.
He said the government issued the directive in response to the growing number of cyberattacks. He revealed that PKCERT has already foiled 253 cyberattacks in 2026. Therefore, the government now requires every public and private institution to establish SOCs for continuous threat monitoring and faster incident response.
Meanwhile, Fortinet Country Director for Pakistan Saqib Ishfaq said cybersecurity professionals now face a rapidly evolving threat landscape while working with limited resources. He added that Security Day Pakistan provides a platform for policymakers, security experts, and technology partners to discuss practical challenges and identify effective solutions.
“We want to understand what works in practice and where the real gaps remain,” he said, adding that Fortinet remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s growing cybersecurity ecosystem.
During the event, Fortinet’s leadership also met with Dr. Haider Abbas to strengthen collaboration with national cybersecurity authorities and reaffirm the company’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s digital security landscape.
Fortinet hosted Security Day Pakistan 2026 in Karachi, bringing together chief information security officers (CISOs), chief information officers (CIOs), government officials, technology leaders, customers, and industry partners to discuss the country’s evolving cybersecurity priorities.
The conference featured keynote speeches and technical sessions on AI-driven cybersecurity, threat intelligence, and next-generation security operations. Experts discussed ways to improve threat detection, enhance response capabilities, and strengthen security strategies as cyber threats become faster, more sophisticated, and increasingly automated.
Participants also shared practical experiences from real-world deployments and discussed the challenges of protecting complex digital infrastructure.
The event highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in Pakistan’s digital transformation and reinforced the need for stronger cooperation between government agencies, technology companies, and the private sector to improve national cyber resilience.
