Instagram’s New Feed Algorithm Tool Lets Users Personalize Their Feeds

Instagram is giving users more control over what they see with a new feed algorithm tool designed to personalise content according to individual preferences. The feature is now available to all English-speaking users after a testing period and aims to make feeds more relevant and engaging.

The update allows users to adjust the balance between algorithmically recommended posts and content from accounts they follow, giving them the ability to prioritise what appears first in their feed.

Options include emphasising “Recommended For You,” “Following,” or “Favourites,” allowing for a more tailored and intentional browsing experience.

Users can access the feature via the app’s settings menu, where they can toggle between discovery-focused recommendations or a more chronological or interest-based feed. Instagram says the update responds directly to user and creator feedback about irrelevant or repetitive content promoted by automated feeds.

Experts note that transparency and control over AI-driven recommendations are becoming increasingly important on social media platforms. Early data from test groups shows that engagement and satisfaction improved when users took advantage of the personalisation options.

Instagram plans to expand the feature to additional languages in the future, signalling a wider rollout for users worldwide.
