Fuel Supply at Risk as Petroleum Dealers Give Govt 48-Hour Deadline

KARACHI (03-06-2026): Petroleum dealers have given the government a 48-hour deadline to address their demand for an increase in sales commission.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), under Chairman Abdul Sami Khan, held a key meeting at Federation House. After discussions, the association decided to send an urgent letter to Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

In addition, dealers warned that they will announce a major decision if the minister does not respond within two days. As a result, uncertainty is growing over the future of petrol pump operations nationwide.

Speaking to the media, PPDA Chief Adviser Malik Khuda Bakhsh said the current commission structure has made operations unsustainable. Therefore, he stressed that dealers are facing severe financial pressure.

Furthermore, he confirmed that the association will send a final letter to the petroleum minister on the issue.

He also warned that if the government delays action, the 30-member committee will announce its next course of action under the chairman’s leadership.

Moreover, Malik Khuda Bakhsh highlighted a sharp decline in diesel sales across the country. At the same time, he noted that smuggled fuel is increasing market pressure.

He added that five oil refineries have already raised concerns with the government over rising smuggling. Consequently, they warned that falling diesel sales are pushing storage facilities to capacity limits.

He further said that during recent Middle East tensions, the government sought cooperation from dealers. However, he noted that dealers are now struggling with financial losses and shrinking working capital.

In addition, he urged the petroleum minister to visit Karachi and review ground conditions directly.

Finally, he warned that if no response arrives within 48 hours, PPDA leadership will announce its next steps. Dealers maintain that without immediate relief, continued operations may become impossible.
