BankIslami Marks World Environment Day with Mangrove Plantation, Beach Cleanup Drive

KARACHI, June 05, 2026: BankIslami partnered with WWF Pakistan to organize a mangrove plantation and beach cleanup drive at the WWF Wetland Centre to mark World Environment Day. The initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability and supports its Green Office Certification goals.

The activity took place along Karachi’s coastline at WWF Pakistan’s Wetland Centre. During the event, participants planted Avicennia saplings, a mangrove species that protects coastlines and supports marine biodiversity. In addition, WWF experts conducted an awareness session on different mangrove species and their environmental benefits.

Furthermore, WWF Pakistan highlighted the dangers of water pollution and its impact on marine life, particularly green turtles. As a result, BankIslami employees actively joined a beach-cleaning campaign to help protect the coastal ecosystem.

Several senior BankIslami officials attended the event. These included Chief Operations Officer Sohail Sikandar, Chief Risk Officer Sajjad Qureshi, Chief Digital Officer Waqas Anis, Chief Internal Auditor Amir Zaidi, Group Head of Admin Wajid Junejo, and Group Head of Operations Muzammil Aslam, along with other team members.

Commenting on the initiative, BankIslami President and CEO Rizwan Ata said a green, sustainable, and resilient future remains essential for national progress. Therefore, he said the partnership with WWF Pakistan demonstrates the bank’s commitment to environmental responsibility beyond banking services.

Meanwhile, BankIslami continues to strengthen its sustainability efforts through its Green Office Certification. The program promotes energy efficiency, water conservation, and reduced carbon emissions across the bank’s operations.

Moreover, the certification reinforces the bank’s belief that responsible banking extends beyond financial services and includes supporting communities and protecting the environment.

As one of Pakistan’s leading Islamic banks, BankIslami remains focused on creating meaningful impact. Consequently, it continues to launch initiatives that support both economic development and environmental sustainability.
