Pakistan–Romania Friendship Monument Approved in Karachi to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

KARACHI, Aug. 7, 2026: The Commissioner Karachi has formally approved the construction of the Pakistan–Romania Friendship Monument in Karachi, marking a significant step in strengthening cultural and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The approval was handed over to Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC) Chairman Sohail Shamim Firpo and Advisor and Chief Operating Officer Atif Farooqi during a meeting in Karachi. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has approved the monument’s location at the intersection of Dr. Mehmood Hussain Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The monument will commemorate more than six decades of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Romania. It aims to symbolize friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation in trade, culture, education, local governance, and people-to-people exchanges.

The initiative was proposed by Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, to further strengthen bilateral relations through a lasting cultural landmark.

Speaking on the occasion, Atif Farooqi said the monument would reflect the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Romania. He added that PRBC would work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure the design and construction properly represent the historical and cultural ties shared by both nations.

PRBC Chairman Sohail Shamim Firpo thanked Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi for facilitating the approval process. He also appreciated Assistant Commissioner HQ Iqra Jannat for her support and coordination in completing the necessary formalities.

PRBC will supervise the construction and future maintenance of the monument in coordination with the concerned authorities. The organization said the project would enhance Karachi’s urban landscape while serving as a lasting symbol of Pakistan–Romania friendship.

Meanwhile, the KMC has also indicated that a proposal to name a road “Constanta Avenue” or “Constanta Road” will be presented before the KMC Council for consideration in its upcoming session.
