KARACHI, July 6,2026: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has urged the authorities to immediately return possession of the historic Cotton Exchange Building to the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) and its legal tenants, warning that the prolonged closure has disrupted Pakistan’s cotton trade.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh expressed serious concern over the continued shutdown of operations at the building. He said the KCA has played a vital role in Pakistan’s cotton industry since its establishment in 1933 by promoting market transparency, price discovery and coordination among stakeholders.
Meanwhile, FPCCI Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon said the Cotton Exchange Building has long served as the hub of Pakistan’s cotton economy. It houses cotton merchants, exporters, brokers, service providers and businesses linked to the cotton and textile value chain.
He added that the prolonged closure has affected the entire cotton sector and disrupted the operations of an institution that has supported Pakistan’s cotton economy for decades.
FPCCI Vice President and Regional Chairman Sindh Abdul Mohamin Khan called on the authorities to implement the Sindh High Court’s order and hand over the building to the KCA and its legal tenants without further delay.
He also expressed concern over the closure of the KCA’s Fiber Testing Laboratory, equipped with the HVI 1000 M1000 system. He noted that the laboratory provides critical cotton testing services to the textile industry and has earned the top global ranking among cotton testing laboratories.
FPCCI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all lawful efforts aimed at protecting institutions that strengthen Pakistan’s cotton and textile sectors and improve their long-term competitiveness.
