KARACHI: Islamabad Capital Police and Islamabad Traffic Police have expanded their electric vehicle (EV) fleet after receiving another batch of BYD vehicles from Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of BYD in Pakistan.
The latest delivery strengthens the departments’ fleet electrification programme and supports Islamabad’s sustainability goals. It also reinforces the capital’s position as a leader in adopting electric mobility within Pakistan’s public sector.
Senior BYD officials, led by Vice President Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division Ketsu Zhang, BYD Pakistan Country Head Lei Jian, and MMC Vice President Sales and Strategy Danish Khaliq, handed over the vehicles. Senior Islamabad Police officials, including Director General Safe City and DIG Traffic Muhammad Haroon Joya and Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan, also attended the ceremony.
Haroon Joya said the initiative supports the prime minister’s vision for green mobility. He added that Islamabad Police plans to gradually replace its conventional fleet with cleaner and more sustainable vehicles.
Meanwhile, Kainat Azhar Khan said the new EVs build on the department’s earlier induction of BYD vehicles. She added that the fleet will improve operational efficiency, reduce fuel costs, and help protect the environment.
BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said Islamabad Police’s continued adoption of EVs demonstrates leadership in modernizing public services. He added that wider use of electric vehicles can reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported fuel while supporting environmental protection.
MMC Vice President Danish Khaliq said the continued partnership reflects growing confidence in electric vehicle technology. He added that EVs can improve operational efficiency while supporting the government’s sustainability and clean transportation goals.
The expansion comes as public-sector institutions increasingly adopt electric mobility following the federal government’s push to reduce fuel costs, improve energy security, and promote environmentally friendly transport.
