UBG Welcomes Cut in Petroleum Prices, Calls for More Relief

KARACHI, June 20, 2026: United Business Group (UBG) Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer and President Zubair Tufail have welcomed the government’s decision to reduce petroleum prices. They described the move as positive for both consumers and the business community.

The UBG leaders said the government reduced fuel prices following a decline in global crude oil prices and easing economic pressures. However, they added that the government still has room to lower prices further in line with international market trends. Therefore, they urged authorities to pass on additional relief to consumers.

SM Tanveer said lower international oil prices will directly benefit Pakistan’s economy. Moreover, he said cheaper petrol will reduce daily transportation costs, especially for low- and middle-income households. Similarly, lower diesel prices will cut freight, public transport, and agricultural costs.

Meanwhile, Zubair Tufail said the government has taken a positive step by significantly reducing petrol and diesel prices. As a result, businesses will face lower operating costs, while consumers will receive much-needed financial relief. He added that the decision could also help ease inflationary pressures and stimulate economic activity.

Furthermore, Tufail urged transporters and businesses to pass on the benefits of lower fuel prices to the public through reduced transport fares and stable prices of essential goods. He said such measures will strengthen economic growth, encourage investment, and improve public welfare.

Finally, the UBG leaders expressed hope that the government will continue introducing policies that provide public relief and support long-term economic stability.
